Sanluri, Between history, culture and traditions

Discovering a fascinating town located on the Middle Campidano plain. The historic center of the town is surrounded by medieval walls and the ‘ancient castle. Sanluri was already inhabited since the Nuragic period, but experienced its greatest splendor in medieval times,during the ‘era of the giudicati;being part of the territory of Arborea,was made to erect at the behest of Peter I d’ Arborea the castle, known later as the Castle of Sanluri. A fierce battle took place against the Aragonese forces trying to conquer Sardinia,over a long period of time and fighting and truces came to an end of the judicate of Arborea on June 30, 1409.

A typical bread of the gastronomic tradition of Sardinia : here is Civraxiu,still prepared according to the best island tradition.The flat land of Medio Campidano, washed by the Mannu River and numerous springs has always been a place where wheat grows luxuriantly.Its bread is known throughout Sardinia for its goodness and for the ancient methods by which it is still prepared today.Su Civraxiu born in this very place,is a type of bread of large size,golden in color and consumed in ancient times mainly during work in the fields by farmers.

Sanluri is full of charm and culture,the town can boast the ‘only habitable castle in Sardinia, as the others are badly damaged by the passage of time, inside the castle of the family of the Counts of Villa Salta visitable not only in the spaces of the fortress, encloses within it a beautiful museum center that tells us the story passing through various eras, from the Risorgimento until the 20s of the 20th century,also includes a collection of ancient waxes and was place de sa “Battalla” Battle between the Kingdom of Arborea and the Aragoneses…
