the Santa Barbara Mining Trail aims to pursue the goal of handing down the memory of the men who over the past centuries and millennia made and walked the ancient mining paths with the pleasure of rediscovering at a slow pace and in close contact with nature the unique beauty of the area.

In the footsteps of St. Barbara the patron saint of miners

The mining trail of St. Barbara, patron saint of miners, winds for about 500 km and crosses places of great beauty and charm, linked to the mining culture that has shaped not only the economic but also the social history of Sulcis- Iglesiente .The journey starts from Iglesias, the most important mining town in the industrial era and already famous during the Middle Ages for the great presence of silver, passing through places that retrace the routes that miners took to get to their place of work, the ‘itinerary, however, is not only mining, in fact we find landscapes still unspoiled among the green of the Mediterranean scrub ,the mountains and the blue of the sea.

The stages of the Santa Barbara mining trail

The path takes place in 30 stages and can be done independently or by contacting the association Cammino di Santa Barbara of Iglesias to receive credentials and more assistance throughout the experience,maintaining telephone contact with the pilgrims.The route is marked by signs that indicate the road to be traveled .The path can also be done by bike in many sections and soon also on horseback. It crosses the entire Sulcis-Iglesiente and the area of Guspinese and Arburense, also reaching the islands of Carloforte and S.Antioco .
